Root Canal Therapy Near You

You’ve likely heard that root canal treatment has a reputation for being an uncomfortable procedure. Our three sister dentists at Le Family Dental understand this all too well. When you receive this treatment from our practice, we ensure that it is a comfortable experience where you feel at ease before and after receiving treatment. If you think you have a tooth infection or are experiencing pain, we recommend scheduling a consultation with one of our Calgary dentists to determine if you are a candidate for root canal therapy.

The Purpose of a Root Canal

Inside the core of each tooth is a chamber called the pulp chamber where the fleshy mass of the pulp resides. It is a meeting point for nerves, connective tissues, and blood vessels to deliver nutrients to keep the tooth alive. If the pulp or surrounding area is injured, whether from decay, infection, or trauma, severe sensitivity or pain can occur.

A root canal is the best solution to this problem. It involves extracting the unhealthy pulp mass and filling the chamber to prevent future damage. Adult teeth can survive without the pulp. Our dentist in Calgary will closely evaluate your smile and take x-rays to determine if this is the most suitable path forward. If so, the procedure can go ahead.

Steps of the Procedure

At Le Family, we make sure to thoroughly guide you through all the steps and answer any questions, so that we can alleviate any anxiety you may have.
Here is a general breakdown of what will take place:

  1. Local anesthesia is provided to numb the site preventing pain.
  2. The target tooth is isolated with a rubber dam. This keeps it dry from any saliva.
  3. We create a small opening in the top of your tooth to access the pulp chamber
  4. The pulp is removed, and then the space is flushed and disinfected.
  5. We use gutta-percha to seal the chamber so other problems won’t arise later.

A temporary crown is put in place for protection while the permanent crown is being designed.
A few weeks later, you will return for a visit so we can place the permanent crown. We will check that it fits and that you’re satisfied.

Follow-up sessions may be necessary to see how well your mouth is healing. Practice good hygiene daily and keep in touch with us if any unwanted symptoms occur so that your smile recovers quickly.
